Joseph Alesnik, MD

Specialty: Board Certified in Thoracic Surgery with added qualifications in Robot-Assisted Cardiac Surgery

Dr. Alesnik comes to Ocala from JFK Medical Center, West Palm Beach, Florida. Where he performed heart and lung surgery.

Dr. Alesnik completed his medical education at the University of South Florida School of Medicine, his General surgery Internship and Residency at the University of Louisville School of Medicine, and his thoracic surgery residency at Baylor College of Medicine and Affiliated Hospitals.

In addition to Robot-Assisted Cardiac Surgery, he has additional experience using endovascular stents to treat aneurysms of the thoracic and abdominal aorta.

Lawrence P. McChesney, MD

Lawrence McChesney, MD, FACS has added his talents to the Ocala Health Surgical Group to expand their all encompassing care. He is a graduate of Creighton University School of Medicine followed by his Residency in Surgery at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. He continued his training completing his Fellowship in Transplantation and Hepato-Pancreato-Billary Surgery at Chicago's Rush University. He has additional training completing a Society of American Gastrointestinal & Endoscopic Surgeons Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Surgery. He holds board recognition in Surgery and Surgical Critical Care by the American Board of Surgery since 1991. He is a member of several well recognized medical societies including AMA, ACS, and ASTS. He has spent his past career as an Academic Surgeon at Rush University, Yale School of Medicine and the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He has also been Teaching Faculty for the American College of Surgeons including contributing author in the ACS Ultrasound for Surgeons. His expertise extends from complex surgery of the liver, pancreas and GI tract to and including Breast and Skin Surgery.

His vast experience combined with his 20 years of caring for patients provides a welcomed environment for patients during the difficult times in their lives.


Steven Khalil, MD

Steven Khalil, MD

Specialty: Board Eligible in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care.

Dr. Khalil comes to Ocala from St. Mary’s Hospital of Michigan, where he performed general, trauma, and critical care surgeries

Dr. Khalil completed his medical education at Northeastern Ohio University College of Medicine, his surgery residency at Staten Island University Hospital, Staten Island, NY and his trauma critical care fellowship at Stony Brook University Hospital, Stony Brook, NY. He is also a Captain in the United States Army Reserve.

Dr. Khalil received honors from Northeastern Ohio University in OB/Gyn, Orthopedic Surgery, Internal Medicine, and Rheumatology and from Montclair State University his honors included Cum Laude Graduate, Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society Award, and Alumni Association Scholarship.
